Both began their careers in medicine—Bruce as an emergency room physician and Brad as an ophthalmologist—before following in their father’s footsteps to build on his vision of creating beautiful, healthy smiles. With this dual foundation, they offer a unique perspective on patient care, blending deep medical knowledge with specialized orthodontic skills. Their paths have led them to a shared commitment: providing trusted, high-quality care to Rapid City and the surrounding region.
Meet
Dr. Bruce Evans
Dr. Bruce Evans didn’t initially set out to be an orthodontist. In his fourth year of medical school at the University of South Dakota, he was considering becoming a radiologist. One day, after a challenging rotation in the ICU at Rapid City Regional Hospital, he stopped by his father’s office and saw a different approach to patient care. “I went from a morbid scene at the hospital to my dad’s office where he was untying patients’ shoes and tooting the horn for a kid who just got his braces off,” Dr. Bruce recalls. Watching his father’s lighthearted approach and seeing the positive impact on patients sparked a new vision for his own future, and he decided to pursue orthodontics.
Dr. Bruce went on to complete dental school at the University of Florida and an orthodontic residency at the University of Minnesota. In 1991, he joined the family practice, bringing his clinical precision and commitment to quality care. Known for his straightforward, no-nonsense approach, Dr. Bruce takes pride in delivering results-focused treatment. His attention to detail has earned him the respect of his patients, many of whom return with their own children, making Evans Orthodontics a trusted name across generations.
Fun Fact
Dr. Bruce’s legacy may continue through the next generation—his oldest son is currently in dental school at the University of Utah, and another son is attending the University of Minnesota and will be applying to dental schools this year.
Meet
Dr. Brad Evans
Dr. Brad Evans’s path to orthodontics was just as unexpected. Originally trained as an ophthalmologist, he completed medical school at the University of South Dakota, followed by an eye residency at the University of Missouri (Mizzou) and a fellowship in corneal and refractive surgery at Tulane University in New Orleans. While practicing in Maui, he realized he wanted a career that would allow him to stay connected to his family and his roots in Rapid City. “Someone once said, ‘You don’t always want to live where you vacation,’” he recalls. Ultimately, he found himself drawn to orthodontics and the opportunity to join his father and brother at Evans Orthodontics.
With that goal in mind, Dr. Brad returned to school, earning both his dental degree and completing his orthodontic residency at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco. Since joining the practice in 2001, Dr. Brad has brought a lighthearted and personable approach to Evans Orthodontics. He makes it a priority to ensure that patients feel comfortable and relaxed, embracing his father’s playful approach. Outside of work, Dr. Brad enjoys scuba diving, mountain biking, and jogging to stay fit.
Fun Fact
Both Dr. Brad and Dr. Bruce share a love for adventure and the outdoors, especially when it comes to skiing deep powder snow—whether it’s in the Black Hills or anywhere else they can find it.
