Dr. Bruce Evans is a fifth-generation resident of Rapid City. His first career goal was to practice medicine, so he attended USD Medical School and graduated in 1984. During his senior year in medical school, he changed plans and decided to become an orthodontist. After an internship in Hawaii, he attended the University of Florida's dental school and graduated first in his class. He completed his orthodontic specialty training at the University of Minnesota. The perpetual student finally began working in 1991. He is one of the very few "double doctor" orthodontists in the United States. In his spare time, he enjoys snow skiing, mountain biking, hiking and waterskiing. He and his wife, Shelly, have three sons: Brady, Andrew and Samuel.
Dr. Brad Evans graduated from Rapid City Central and USD Medical School with highest honors. He became an eye surgeon and practiced medicine in Hawaii prior to returning to school. He completed his dental and orthodontic training at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco. Dr. Brad has the unique distinction of having been a practicing ophthalmologist before entering the field of dentistry and becoming an orthodontic specialist. In his spare time, he enjoys skiing, hiking, biking, scuba diving, jazz music and family time. He and his wife, Brenna, have a son, Rowan, and a daughter, Oona.
Dr. James Evans passed away in September of 2023, but began Evans Orthodontics in 1969. He was a native of Rapid City and excelled in athletics during high school. He then played football for the University of Nebraska. He taught grade school and coached for 5 years before attending dental school at Loyola University in Chicago. He was elected president of his class and graduated at the top of his class. After completing two years of orthodontic specialty training at Loyola, he stayed on as assistant chairman and associate professor for several more years. In 1969, the family moved back to Rapid City where he developed a national and international reputation for his progressive treatment techniques. Dr. James Evans has continued his teaching worldwide. In 1996, he lectured in 16 different cities across the United States. He also lectured in Europe, Asia, Canada and New Zealand. Over 300 orthodontists visited the Rapid City office to observe and learn his treatment methods. Dr. James Evans was inducted to the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame April 13, 2013.
The Evans family has over 100 years of combined experience in the field of orthodontics. Drs. Brad, Bruce, and James Evans' professional affiliations include: American Association of Orthodontists, South Dakota Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, South Dakota Dental Association and the Black Hills District Dental Society. Dr. Brad is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Bruce is a member of the South Dakota Medical Association.
